The material
The Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40 is made of platinum and gold. Platinum, rare and precious, offers not only a radiant exterior but also fantastic physical and chemical values. Although it is soft and elastic, it hardly corrodes and thus remains permanently radiantly bright. Processing the material is extremely difficult and requires perfect craftsmanship. The Rolex brand only uses 950 platinum, an alloy with 950 thousandths of a platinum, which makes it durable and stable. The 18-carat gold is produced in the company's own foundry and thus achieves the highest quality. Different colors are produced depending on the different additives (copper, silver, platinum or palladium). The cases are finally available in yellow, rose or white gold and must meet all in-house quality standards. All cases have a diameter of 40 mm.
dial and bezel
Different dials are also available to match the different case colors. This gives the models a face and a different expression depending on the color/features. It is manufactured almost exclusively by hand in Rolex's own workshop. A striking feature, to guarantee good readability on the one hand and to underline the quality on the other, is that the indices on the dial are made of 18-carat gold. This prevents them from tarnishing. In addition to the dial, different bezels are also available. The fluted bezel can create a sporty appearance, whereas the smooth bezel creates a more classically elegant look.
The work
The heart of the watch is undoubtedly the movement. With its caliber 3255, a state-of-the-art movement developed in-house at Rolex, a technical masterpiece has been installed that sets new standards. Precision, a long power reserve, insensitivity to magnetic fields and shock resistance are just some of the aspects that have been improved and perfected. Rolex also holds 14 patents that protect the self-winding mechanism.
