BLNR - Bleu et noir of the Rolex Batgirl
In 2013, Rolex presented the GMT-Master 2 with a new color combination called "Bleu et Noir," which means blue and black in French. The reference number was 116710BLNR. Although there was speculation that this watch would be discontinued, Rolex presented the successor called "Rolex Batgirl" (Ref. 126710BLNR) at Baselworld 2019, which features several improvements over its predecessor. These include a more elegant Jubilee bracelet, a slightly slimmer case shape, the latest Rolex caliber 3285 with a power reserve of 70 hours and a more robust Chronergy escapement. The color of the bezel may vary depending on the batch. With the Batgirl, Rolex continues the success story of the GMT-Master series by practicing careful evolution rather than revolution.
Jubilee band at the Batgirl
The use of the Jubilee bracelet, already known from other models such as the Datejust, gives the Rolex Batgirl a more elegant look. The slightly slimmer horns of the case also contribute to a more harmonious appearance.
The new caliber 3285 not only offers a longer power reserve, but also an improved Chronergy escapement that is less sensitive to magnetic fields, an important feature for watches that are worn in everyday use.
However, it is not clear whether the color of the bezel has changed between the Batman and the Batgirl, as Rolex uses different batches and this can lead to differences in color. Nevertheless, the color combination of blue and black remains a characteristic feature of the GMT-Master 2 series.
The Rolex Batgirl builds on the success of the GMT-Master series by retaining its proven features and design characteristics while updating it with technical improvements and a more elegant appearance.
