Jaeger LeCoultre Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso is an elegant watch for men and women that can withstand a lot. It is particularly striking due to its unusual rectangular shape, in which the actual watch is hardly wider than the watch strap. The straps are usually made of leather or metal. Both the metal straps and the watch cases themselves are available in versions made of durable steel and also of various precious metals. The dials are monochrome, usually in plain white. An inner rectangle, in the middle of which the hands are attached, is surrounded by a white frame on which the hours are marked in Arabic numerals. Due to the large difference in the height and width of the watch, the minute hand only points to the number 12 or 6 on the hour and half hour, while it covers the number 3 or 9 on the quarter hour.

Reversible?

Don't worry, the name Reverso doesn't come from the fact that the watch sometimes runs backwards. It refers to a protective function that is intended for use during sports. The watch can then be turned inside out so that the sensitive watch glass rests on the skin and the robust case faces outwards. This means that your watch will not be scratched or even broken if it receives a knock or shock. Unlike other watches, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso is comfortable to wear even in this position and does not press.

An international watch

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso was developed in the early 1930s by the Swiss watch manufacturer Jaeger-LeCoultre. It was not intended for use in Switzerland, however, but for polo matches in India. The first wearers of the watch were neither Swiss nor Indian, but British officers who were stationed in India and spent their free time playing the typically English sport. Apparently the game was played so fiercely that the rackets repeatedly came into contact with the wrists of other players, and many a watch was broken in the process.
