IWC Portofino
For three decades, IWC Schaffhausen has delighted the watch world with new models from the Portofino series. The models reflect the lightness of the Mediterranean lifestyle in the Italian village of the same name - a deluxe travel tip. Here, the lifestyle of elegant luxury watches is gathered in one place.
A tribute to the romantic coastal village
With just 500 inhabitants, the small community on the Ligurian coast appreciates the "La Dolce Vita" feeling. But despite its small size, the place has a lot to offer: luxury boutiques, yachts, top hotels... The rich and beautiful have long since discovered the value of the former fishing village in the Gulf of Tigullio, so that it is now often mentioned in the same breath as Monaco or Nice. But it is not just the luxury that makes this place so special. The colorful landscape with the pine, olive and cypress groves, as well as the adjacent sea, looks like something out of a picture book and invites you to dream. The many small, colorful houses, small cafés and the picturesque natural harbor also contribute to the beautiful overall picture. There are also impressive sights such as the church of San Giorgio and the magnificent Castello Brown, which towers over Portofino in the middle of a beautiful park. The castle, with its antique flair and incomparable panoramic view, is a popular location for weddings. The fortress and its famous castle museum are also frequently booked for various exhibitions. If you ever make it to Portofino, you should definitely explore the village and the surrounding landscape on foot, because the magnificent flora and fauna can only be truly enjoyed on a long hike along the tip of the peninsula or through the nature park. There's no question that Portofino's magical idyll will make you want to travel.
Portofino feeling for your wrist
With the classically elegant Portofino timepieces, IWC Schaffhausen has for decades made it its mission to capture the easy, carefree flair of this special place, which has lost none of its magic over time, and to inspire watch fans with it. They have succeeded in doing this, because the Portofino collection, which retains its value, is one of the manufacturer's ongoing guarantees of success. It is equally popular with men and women. The Portofino models also benefit from the constant demand for classic models and puristic design, because the no-frills dial with Roman numerals or line indices and the slim feuille hands fit exactly into this scheme. The design origins of the series lie in the 1970s, when the IWC Lépine pocket watch was chosen as the template for the Portofino collection - this is how the voluminous yet minimalist case design came about. The puristic pocket watch for the wrist was finally introduced in 1984 and has been part of IWC's repertoire ever since.
Unique engraving as the icing on the cake of the wristwatches
If you sail into the idyllic harbor of Portofino, you will witness a truly extraordinary view. The small Italian coastal village looks as if someone had stopped time. IWC Schaffhausen has captured this very special moment on selected models of the Portofino collection using a unique base engraving - and thus literally preserved the magic of this vacation spot in the watches.
The anniversary editions of the classics
The Portofino Hand Wound Moon Phase was launched in 1984 and was reissued in 2017. This homage to the classic also has a pretty and extremely precise moon phase display at 12 o'clock and is powered by the hand-wound movement 59800. The power reserve lasts an impressive eight days from winding. The simple dial with date, small second, power reserve and moon phase exudes the timeless elegance typical of Portofino. The transparent sapphire crystal case back also allows a glimpse of the impressive movement, as well as the plates and bridges with various decorative finishes. The Hand Wound Moon Phase is available with a stainless steel or red gold case, as well as with a silver-plated or slate gray dial. The elegant timepiece is complemented by a dark brown strap made of the finest alligator leather by the Italian manufacturer Santoni. The special 150 Years Edition is also available in an elegant shade of blue - either in the form of accents or the entire dial. It is combined with a black alligator leather strap. However, the models are strictly limited - some of them to just 150 pieces. You'll have to hurry if you want to get your hands on one of these treasures. The Portofino Automatic was also recently updated: The 2018 Portofino Automatic Edition 150 Years also comes in an incomparable version with blued accents or an entire dial and a black alligator leather strap.
The classic automatic watch will not let its wearer down thanks to its robust and reliable automatic movement. With its three hands, subtle date display and round, slim case, the Automatic has been one of the most popular Portofinos for many years. The new edition models are limited to 2,000 pieces each.
