Cartier - Luxury group with a long history
The French company Cartier belongs to a renowned jewelry and watch company. Already in 1847, the foundation stone for the luxury goods group was set after Louis-Francois Cartier took over the jewelry atelier in Paris. Marked by a successful history, Cartier grew rapidly and expanded the production of custom-made watches. Due to changes in other company structures, a Cartier subsidiary was opened in London in addition to the main branch in 1904. Leaps to Russia and America followed, making Cartier increasingly famous internationally.
The origins of the wristwatch
The desire to be able to read the time comfortably from the wrist was expressed by the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont, who went down in history as an inventor and perfectionist of flying machines. His friend Louis Cartier, implemented the vision of the watch on the wrist and thus invented the mother of all wristwatches. From then on, it was possible to read the time comfortably from the wrist without having to dig the pocket watch out of the trouser pocket.
